Please vote in favor of adding more police officers (and firefighters). In the past twelve months both my husband’s car and my car have been broken into in front of our home in our circular drive. We are tired of the increase in petty theft and large theft, such as stollen cars, in our neighborhood. We moved into this neighborhood for its safe streets and expect with the increase in crime, there would be an increase in patrol. Thank you for considering this ordinance!

Please vote YES on Ordinance 26-171. Our city needs 4 more police officers, 2 more firefighters, and competitive pensions to recruit and retain the best first responders. Safe neighborhoods protect our families and property values. In December, an uninsured speeding driver crashed into our classic car on Baltimore Ave. and then resisted arrest. It was terrifying and reinforced how essential well-staffed police and fire departments are.

I moved here 20 years ago because University Park was the safest place to raise my 4 year old daughter. We are on the verge of losing that safety reputation. We are strongly supportive of adding more police officers and firefighters and an improvement in their pensions. Without these brave souls, we lose this beautiful city that we greatly cherish. As Dallas lowers their security standards, UP becomes more dangerous. We must prioritize safety and lower our tolerance for crime immediately.

We strongly support adding four police officers two firefighters to our community. We’re seeing increasingly bold criminal activity - individuals checking for unlocked doors, walking through backyards and garages. Public safety is a key reason people choose to live in UP. This is not a luxury—it is a necessity. Investing in additional officers and firefighters will provide greater security, faster response times, and peace of mind for our families.
    Respectfully, Missy and John Saalfield
